  1. Something about the head bothers me, something about the perspective of it feels off. Aside from that I think you've gone a pretty great job with this one. Those objects you have painted around her are really great. Really showing off your skill with those things. I like that red bug coming from the left side, but the right side of your composition feels a little too empty. There isn't a real clear vocal point either, except for the girls face. I see you got some sun shining down. I could also see some of the mermaan's hair? I also see some sunlight on the lily pads. You should play up some direct sunlight hitting the water! It was definitely in the right places especially if you put it around where her fishing rod is going. Perhaps even considering putting some kind of foreground element to lead our eye into the composition. All thaat being said, Nice job buddy!

    1. Thanks for the crits, Erik. The head's been bothering me too - I've just left this one alone for now, but I do intend to come back to it after the second piece is finished. The head will be on my list of things to fix.

Now that you mention it, I agree with your assessment of the right side feeling empty. I'm thinking that I might try and crop that side out, and extend out the left side to compensate, shifting the character over towards the right and exposing more of the closer end of the dock. We'll see how that goes.
